GIRLS TRIP TOURS, GHANA 2018

After retiring from the Ford Foundation, Susan Hairston was excited to celebrate the milestone. Her daughter Erika, had her own milestone to celebrate. She had just graduated from Yale University, built her first app and was on her way to San Francisco for a new job at LinkedIn. That's when Erika introduced her mom to Girls Trip Tours. Together, they embarked on an unforgettable mother-daughter trip to Accra, Ghana in 2018.

During the trip, Susan was inspired by the mentoring and found it to be a valuable opportunity to support young girls. These conversations gave her space for introspection. So much so, that at the farewell dinner, Susan made an unexpected announcement to the group - she would run for public office. The trip had re-ignited her political ambition. She said out loud a dream she had often whispered.

In 2019, Susan was elected to a local councilwoman position. Not only did the trip give Susan and her daughter an unforgettable way to mark such important milestones in both their lives, but it also helped Susan unleash her passion for public service.

This is why we design Girls Trip Tours itineraries to inspire transformation in women of all ages, at varying life stages, visiting the African continent. It’s never too late for a new dream.

Susan Review:

"My maiden adventure to Ghana was fantastic and Girls Trip Tours was outstanding in their effort in arranging our comfort, well being, and enjoyment. I am accustomed to luxury travel and was impressed by how well this young entrepreneur, Eyitemi, set out with purpose and forethought to create extraordinary experiences and weave in women's empowerment and positivity about the Motherland."
